Affordances in interaction design
James Gibson at (1977,1979) proposed the concept of affordances, the concept is derived from the psychological affordances. From many interaction design cases in the past, it can be found that perception is the key to making the expression of design more intuitive in the process of interaction design. In fact, in 1988, Donald Norman applied this concept to daily design in his creative book The Psychology of Everyday Things. After a series of developments, he finally incorporated this concept into the field of Human-Computer Interaction.
Perhaps the intuitive expression of affordance in design should come from the observation of the user’s daily behavior. The interactive functions designed by the designer should be more user-friendly and conform to the daily behavioral norms of users. In addition to observing the daily behavior of users, perhaps observing their cultural background is also a good way.
For example, in the calendar function that comes with Apple’s ios system, there are some reminders for traditional Chinese festivals, and under the date expression of the Gregorian calendar, the Chinese lunar calendar timing method is added.
Perhaps we can interpret the concept of affordance more simply from the perspective of the relationship between objects and people and what people can do. But in general, this is still a very complicated concept that requires us to continue to practice in future interaction design.
Turn a cylinder into a chair where you can sit down comfortably.
Affordances Of An IPad
- The IPad has a larger screen, which is more suitable for watching various videos
- The iPad is relatively light, and it can be turned into a lighter and more convenient office tool by adding a mobile keyboard dedicated to the iPad.
- iPad can use Bluetooth to share high-definition pictures with other Apple devices anytime and anywhere without a network
